| Obverse description | The heraldic lion of Zürich rampant to the left, brandishing an upraised sword in its right forepaw and supporting with its left forepaw a Spanish-shaped shield bearing the divided black-and-white coat of arms of the Republic of Zürich. The figure is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the mane and musculature. The encircling Latin legend is separated by pellet stops and reads continuously around the coin. |

| Reverse description | Within a richly decorated baroque cartouche featuring elaborate acanthus scrollwork and foliate ornaments at the top and bottom, the five-line Latin inscription proclaims the denomination and issuing authority of the Republic of Zürich. The date 1697 is set in the lower exergual area beneath a pair of crossed palm or laurel sprigs. The entire composition is enclosed by a milled border, with the cartouche filling the field in a bold, deeply struck manner characteristic of late 17th-century Swiss municipal coinage. |
