Reverse description Five-line Latin inscription DVCAT / REIPVBLI / *CÆ* / BERNEN / *SIS* with the date 1679 in the exergue, all enclosed within a laurel and olive wreath tied at the base, the whole surrounded by a beaded border. The bold raised lettering, divided by asterisk separators, identifies the coin as a ducat of the Republic of Bern. The clean field and symmetrical wreath arrangement are characteristic of Bernese milled gold coinage of the period.
