| Beschrijving keerzijde | A finely engraved cartouche with elaborate scrollwork and foliate ornaments frames the five-line Latin inscription occupying the entire reverse field. A small rosette or floral ornament appears at the top and bottom of the cartouche. The inscription reads DVCATUS NOVVS REIPUB: BASILEENSIS (New Ducat of the Republic of Basel). The overall composition is symmetrical and reflects the refined Baroque style of mid-seventeenth-century Swiss civic coinage. |
