Vashishthiputra Siri Pulumavi ruled during one of the Satavahana dynasty's periods of genuine expansion into the western Deccan, a region long contested with the Western Kshatrapas. His coinage reflects that tension directly — silver issues of this type are thought to have absorbed influences from Kshatrapa minting practice, likely a consequence of the political maneuvering that included his marriage alliance with the Kshatrapa ruler Rudradaman I, an arrangement that ultimately failed to prevent renewed conflict between the two powers.
