| Obverse description | Bare-headed and laureate bust of Gordian III facing right, rendered in finely struck provincial style with naturalistic portraiture. The emperor's youthful effigy is depicted with a laurel wreath binding the hair, the head bare at the neck. The encircling Greek legend reads ΑΥ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. The portrait occupies the full field of the flan, with the legend running clockwise around the periphery. |

| Reverse description | Frontal schematic view of Mount Argaeus, the sacred volcanic mountain of Cappadocia, depicted as a conical peak surmounted by a small figure or standard, with rocky outcroppings and vegetation rendered in relief along the slopes. The mountain rests upon a low base or altar line. A pellet appears to the left of the mount in the field. The reverse legend ΜΗΤΡΟ ΚΑΙC(Α) Β Ν(Ε) arcs around the upper periphery, identifying Caesarea as the metropolis, while the regnal year EΤ Δ (year 4) is inscribed in the exergue. |
