The Volcae Tectosages occupied territory around Tolosa (modern Toulouse), a city whose treasury became briefly famous — or infamous — when Roman consul Quintus Servilius Caepio plundered its sacred gold and silver deposits in 106 BC, an act that haunted Roman politics for years afterward.
