Obverse description Stylized bust of the Sasanian king Khusro II facing right in the manner of late Sasanian coinage, rendered in the Arab-Sasanian tradition. Immediately before the face, the name of the governor 'Umar b. 'Ubayd Allah is inscribed in Pahlavi script. Behind the royal head appears the Pahlavi benedictory formula KHWARRAH APZWTW (May his glory increase). The outer margin bears an Arabic legend invoking praise to God, characteristic of early Umayyad religious adaptation of Sasanian coin types.
