Obverse description Laureate head of the emperor Tiberius facing right, rendered in a somewhat provincial style typical of local Cretan coinage. The portrait displays characteristic features of Tiberian iconography, with the laurel wreath clearly articulated around the brow. The surrounding field carries the Greek legend ΤΙ ΚΑΙ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΟϹ ΚΟΡ ΛΥ, identifying the emperor and the Roman magistrate Cornelius Lupus. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, as is characteristic of hammered provincial silver issues of this period.
