| Obverse description | Laureate head of the emperor Tiberius facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portraiture tradition with naturalistic facial features and layered laurel wreath. The circular Greek legend ΤΙΒΕΡΙΟΣ ΚΑΙΣΑΡ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ surrounds the effigy, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait is boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of the Cappadocian provincial mint at Caesarea under the early Julio-Claudian period. |
