Dyrrachion, on the Adriatic coast of Illyria, was one of the principal western termini of the Via Egnatia and functioned as the main conduit for Roman silver moving eastward into Macedonia and Greece. Its drachms were struck to an Apollonian standard closely matching the coinage of neighboring Apollonia, and the two cities' issues circulated so interchangeably that ancient hoards routinely contain both without distinction. The magistrate names Philon and Theogenes appear together on Ceka 436, identifying a specific administrative pairing whose tenure can only be loosely bracketed within the type's long production window.
