背面描述 A fully open rose viewed en face at center, its petals spread symmetrically and rendered in high relief, serving as the civic emblem of Rhodes. The magistrate's name ΦΙΛΙΣΚΟΣ is inscribed around the rose, while the letters Ρ and Ο, abbreviating ΡΟΔΙΩΝ (of the Rhodians), appear on either side of the floral device. A grain ear is placed below the rose in the lower field as an additional symbol. The design is contained within a dotted border running along the coin's circumference.

附加信息

Rhodes lost its status as a free port in 166 BC when Rome transferred that privilege to Delos, devastating Rhodian trade revenues and triggering a prolonged economic contraction. The island's silver coinage nevertheless continued under a magistrate-name system, with individual officials lending their names to issues — Philiskos among them. These late Rhodian drachms were struck during a period when the island navigated carefully between Roman authority and its own diminished but still functional civic institutions.

Ashton and Weiss's die study places this magistrate's issues within a well-documented sequence, allowing reasonably precise dating within the broader 84–30 BC window.
