The royal legend is inscribed in two lines above and below the club, reading ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ, with control letters or monograms — appearing as ΔΙ and ΒΕ — positioned in the lower field. The oak wreath border is a characteristic Macedonian dynastic symbol associated with the sanctuary of Zeus at Dion.
