Obverse description Facing right, the youthful head of Herakles in three-quarter profile, depicted wearing the scalp of the Nemean lion as a headdress, with the characteristic open jaw and ear visible over the brow. The rendering is bold and deeply struck, displaying fine archaic-to-classical transitional style typical of Ionian coinage of the mid-fourth century BC. The lion's mane frames the hero's curly hair in high relief, and the facial features are rendered with expressive naturalism. The field is plain with no additional devices or inscription.
