正面描述 Facing three-quarter right, the radiate head of Helios is rendered in fine Hellenistic style, with flowing wavy hair falling to the neck and a characteristic radiate crown whose rays emanate from the crown of the head. The portrait is boldly modelled in high relief, filling much of the flan, with finely articulated facial features including a straight nose and slightly parted lips. The field is plain, with no legend, the entire design reflecting the longstanding Rhodian artistic tradition of depicting their patron solar deity.

附加信息

This issue dates to the catastrophic years of the First Mithridatic War, during which Mithridates VI of Pontus systematically devastated the economy of the Aegean. Rhodes, one of the few poleis to resist Mithridates directly, maintained its mint through the conflict — a defiant continuity of civic coinage while much of the region suspended production or fell under Pontic control. The magistrate name Nikephoros, "bearer of victory," may carry deliberate political weight given the circumstances, though this cannot be confirmed with certainty.
