Obverse description Facing left, the youthful head of the eponymous nymph Sinope is rendered in fine Classical style, her wavy hair swept back and secured in a sakkos (cloth cap) at the nape, with loose curling strands escaping at the temple and forehead. A beaded taenia or fillet is visible along the hairline, and a pendant earring adorns the ear. The modeling of the facial features — almond eye, straight nose, and slightly parted lips — displays the refined Pontic engraving tradition of the early fourth century BC. The field is plain, with no legend on this side.
