Paros had long derived its wealth from the famous white marble quarried on the island, and by the late third century BC the city maintained enough commercial independence to strike its own silver coinage even as Macedonian and later Roman power pressed in from multiple directions. The HGC 6, 663 type is scarce — Parian silver from this late Hellenistic window turns up infrequently in trade, reflecting both modest output and an island economy that was contracting relative to its Classical peak.
