Beschrijving voorzijde Cow standing to right, head turned back to left to observe a suckling calf positioned below her body; above the group, Nike flies to right holding a wreath, rendered in the dynamic Hellenistic style characteristic of Dyrrachian coinage. The magistrate's name MENIΣKOΣ appears as the obverse legend. A thunderbolt is placed in the exergue below the bovine group, serving as a civic symbol of the mint.

Aanvullende informatie

Dyrrachion — the Greek colony on the Illyrian coast known to Romans as Dyrrachium — issued drachms of this type throughout the last two centuries BC, each identified by a pair of magistrate names that functioned as a form of civic accountability. Ceka catalogued hundreds of such name-pairings, and the sheer number of dies produced across this period reflects the city's status as a major Adriatic trading hub. Caesar crossed here in 48 BC pursuing Pompey, by which point the mint had been active in this series for well over a century.
