Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of King Menander I facing right, wearing a royal diadem with flowing ribbons visible behind the neck. The king is depicted in Hellenistic style with curly hair and a determined profile. A palm branch or similar symbol appears in the right field. The circular Greek legend surrounds the effigy reading ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ ΜΕΝΑΝΔΡΟΥ, identifying him as 'King Menander the Saviour.'
