| Obverse description | Diademed, bare-headed bust of King Menander I facing left in three-quarter rear view, the king depicted in active pose with a spear held in the raised right hand. The royal diadem is clearly rendered, emphasizing Hellenistic royal convention. A discontinuous Greek legend encircles the bust in the field, reading BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΣΩTHPOΣ MENANΔPOY, identifying the king as Menander the Saviour. The engraving reflects the distinctive blending of Greek artistic tradition with local Bactrian workshop style. |
