Obverse description Laureate head of Zeus of Dodona facing right, the deity depicted with flowing hair and a full, curling beard rendered in fine detail characteristic of Hellenistic die-cutting. An oak wreath crowns the head, referencing the sacred oracle sanctuary at Dodona in Epirus. The portrait is boldly struck in high relief, filling much of the flan, with the hair swept back in long undulating locks behind the neck. The field to the right is largely plain, with the irregular flan edge typical of hand-struck Greek coinage of this period.
