Hatched lines appear along the periphery of the flan, characteristic of the Kapostal type coinage attributed to the Hercuniates of the middle Danube region. |

The Hercuniates were a Celtic tribe settled in the region of Pannonia, roughly corresponding to modern western Hungary and eastern Austria, whose coinage tradition derived ultimately from Macedonian prototypes filtered through successive generations of imitation. The Kapostal type takes its name from a Hungarian findspot, and the bulk of known specimens have emerged from hoards concentrated in the Transdanubian region — suggesting highly localized circulation rather than broad interregional trade use.
Göbl's classification of this type within the dense Pannonian series reflects how tightly the Hercuniate issues cluster typologically, making die linkage studies the primary tool for sequencing them.
