Alabanda, a Carian city that had enthusiastically aligned with Rome against Philip V of Macedon, was rewarded with formal recognition of its freedom following the Peace of Apamea in 188 BC. This drachm, struck in the years bracketing that diplomatic transition, reflects the city's brief window of assertive civic coinage — Alabanda rarely produced silver at this weight and frequency outside this narrow period. The magistrate name Isokrates appearing on the issue is known from BMC and HN Online but remains unattested in inscriptional sources, leaving his administrative role a matter of inference.
