Struck at Magnesia ad Maeandrum during the turbulent decades following Alexander's death in 323 BC, this issue falls squarely within the period of the Wars of the Diadochi, when Alexander's successors fought to control his fractured empire. The mint at Magnesia, operating under shifting regional authority, continued producing coinage in Alexander's name long after his death — a deliberate political choice to invoke legitimacy through continuity rather than announce a new regime.
Price 1980 places this emission within a well-documented sequence for the mint. The dies for this issue show the controlled output characteristic of a mint operating under Antigonid influence during the late 4th century.
