Additional information

Struck at Magnesia ad Maeandrum in the immediate aftermath of Alexander's death in 323 BC, this issue belongs to the chaotic window when his generals were still nominally minting in his name while the empire fractured around them. Magnesia was one of the smaller Asian mint cities activated during Alexander's eastern campaigns, and its output remained modest compared to prolific centers like Amphipolis or Babylon. Price 1938 places this squarely within the early posthumous series, before Antigonus consolidated control over the western satrapies and rationalized mint activity across the region.
