Struck at Karne, a mint of uncertain precise location but generally placed in Asia Minor, this issue belongs to the vast posthumous Alexander coinage that continued for well over a century after the king's death in 323 BC. By the time this piece was produced, the type had become a de facto international trade currency across the eastern Mediterranean and Near East, its consistency of weight and imagery trusted by merchants who cared nothing for the political reality behind its production. Price 3431 is among the later posthumous issues, struck under Seleucid authority.
