Colophon, one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League, became a significant mint for Alexandrine coinage in the immediate aftermath of Alexander's death in 323 BC. These issues fall within the fraught regency period under Perdiccas and then Antipater, when the successors were still nominally striking in Alexander's name to assert continuity rather than independence. Price 1762 is identifiable by its specific magistrate's control marks, the granular attribution work having been systematized by Martin Price's 1991 corpus — still the definitive reference for posthumous Alexandrine silver.
