Obverse description Youthful bare head of Heracles in right profile, clad in the Nemean lion skin headdress, the scalp knotted at the throat with the forepaws tied across the chest. The high-relief portrait displays finely rendered curling hair beneath the lion's mane, with the beast's open jaws framing the top of the head. The modelling is characteristic of the skilled die engravers working in the Hellenistic tradition at the Abydos mint during the post-Alexander period.
