Obverse description Bust of Hormazd I facing right, depicted with a distinctive mural crown surmounted by a korymbos (hair globe) and adorned with a beaded diadem. The king wears a heavily jewelled necklace and elaborate court dress with visible drapery at the shoulder. A full, curled beard frames the royal visage in the characteristic Sasanian royal portraiture style. The Pahlavi legend encircles the bust, running along the outer border of the flan, proclaiming the king's royal titles. The portrait is rendered in the bold, high-relief style typical of early Sasanian coinage.
