Obverse description A cow stands to right in profile, head turned back to gaze at a suckling calf positioned beneath her to the left; the composition is a classic Dyrrachian type evoking fertility and prosperity. The figures are rendered in a bold, slightly stylised Hellenistic manner characteristic of Illyrian civic coinage. The magistrate's name HΡOΔOTOΣ appears as a legend in the field above or around the bovine group. A rudder is placed in the exergue below, serving as a civic symbol referencing Dyrrachion's importance as a maritime trading centre.
