Kolophon's autonomous silver coinage in this period reflects the city's precarious position as Macedonian successors fought over the Aegean coast following Alexander's death. The magistrate name Hermonax appears on a small cluster of dies within this series, placing this issue within the fractious years when Antigonus and later Lysimachus competed for control of Ionia — Kolophon itself was eventually abandoned when Lysimachus forcibly synoikized its population into his newly founded Ephesos around 294 BC, effectively ending the city's independent mint.
