Hermaios ruled one of the last Indo-Greek territories east of the Hindu Kush, and his coinage — struck at Pushkalavati (modern Charsadda, near Peshawar) — was produced during a period of steady territorial contraction as Scythian pressure from the north dismantled Greek-ruled kingdoms one by one. He is sometimes identified as the final Indo-Greek king to hold meaningful power, with his dynasty effectively ending when the Kushans absorbed the region sometime around the turn of the millennium. The monogram variants catalogued by Bopearachchi reflect different minting officials or workshops active across his long reign.
