| Description du revers | A sphinx, adorned with a composite crown of solar disc, cow horns and feathers — emblematic of Egyptian religious iconography — strides to the left. From the chest of the sphinx emerges a crocodile, a distinctly Nilotic motif. The sphinx treads upon a serpent below, while above the creature a griffin is depicted in the field. This elaborate reverse composition blends Greco-Roman and Egyptian mythological imagery, characteristic of the Alexandrian mint's syncretic artistic tradition under Hadrian. |
