The Napki Malka coinage belongs to a group of Hephthalite rulers whose exact succession and titulature remain contested — "Napki Malka" itself is a reconstruction of the Bactrian inscription read as "king of Napki," a regional designation whose geographic referent is still debated among specialists. These were struck in the eastern territories as Sasanian pressure from the west and eventual Göktürk expansion from the north were slowly dismantling Hephthalite power, making the emission window of roughly four decades narrower in practice than it appears on paper.
Göbl's sequencing between types 200 and 205 reflects meaningful die-link distinctions, not merely stylistic drift.
