The hair is elaborately styled with tight curls framing the face and bound with a cord, surmounted by a Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head. Two dolphins are positioned flanking the head in the field, serving as symbols of Syracuse's maritime identity. The portrait displays the hallmarks of the early phase of the celebrated school of Syracusan die engravers, combining idealized beauty with sculptural depth. |
