The Alchon Huns under Khingila pushed into the Indian subcontinent in the second half of the 5th century, displacing the last Gupta-affiliated rulers from the Gandharan and Punjab regions. This bilingual type — combining Bactrian script with Brahmi — reflects the administrative pragmatism of a conquering group that needed its coinage legible to subject populations still operating within Indo-Iranian scribal traditions.

Göbl's EM 80-81 places this issue at the earliest phase of consolidated Alchon rule in the subcontinent, before later types abandoned the bilingual format entirely.
