| Obverse description | Sphinx seated to right in three-quarter view, rendered in archaic style with detailed feathering on the wing curling prominently behind the body. The creature holds its forepaw raised, with the head turned slightly forward. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, characteristic of hand-struck Chian silver coinage of the fourth century BC. The field to the right is largely blank, providing relief to the boldly modelled figure. |
