Beschrijving voorzijde Stylized male head facing left, rendered in the abstract La Tène Celtic artistic tradition, with facial features greatly simplified and reduced to broad, rounded planes. The hair is depicted as a large, smooth convex mass occupying much of the flan, with minimal surface articulation. The overall treatment reflects the progressive barbarization of the Hellenistic prototype, characteristic of Scordisci coinage of the 3rd century BC. No legend or inscription is present in the field.

Beschrijving keerzijde A horse prancing to the left rendered in the characteristic Celtic abstract style, its body composed of bold rounded forms with scattered pellets in the field representing decorative elements. Above the horse appears a rider or Dachreiter motif — a small stylized figure atop the horse's back, a defining feature of this coinage type. A dotted border or pellet arc frames the upper portion of the design, and additional pellets are distributed across the field. The composition is anepigraphic, with no legend, consistent with the Celtic tribal coinage tradition of the Scordisci.

Aanvullende informatie

The Scordisci were a Celtic people settled in the central Balkans — roughly modern Serbia — following the failed Galatian raid on Delphi in 279 BC, when fragmenting tribal groups took up permanent territory between the Sava, Danube, and Morava rivers. Their coinage derives from Macedonian prototypes, specifically the drachms of Philip II, absorbed through decades of mercenary service and raiding contact with the Hellenistic world. The Dachreiter type — named for the rider-on-roof motif — represents a late stage of stylistic abstraction, where Macedonian imagery has been systematically deconstructed into geometric shorthand.
