Obverse description Diademed head of Ariarathes V Eusebes Philopator facing right, executed in fine Hellenistic portrait style with softly modelled, naturalistic features characteristic of late Seleukid-influenced royal portraiture. The hair falls in loose, flowing locks swept back from the forehead in the Macedonian royal tradition, bound above the brow by a plain diadem whose tie-ends trail behind the neck. The portrait is centred on the flan with the neck truncated at the lower field. The obverse field is otherwise blank, with no legend or additional devices.
