The stag is shown with head lowered in submission beneath the griffin's assault. An Aramaic inscription naming Ariarathes appears below the central device in the exergual area. The engraving style is consistent with late Achaemenid provincial satrapal coinage of Cappadocia and reflects the artistic conventions of the Persian imperial sphere. |
