Reverse description A griffin passant left, rendered with characteristic Achaemenid-period vitality, is depicted attacking a stag kneeling left in a dynamic predator-prey composition. The stag is shown with head lowered in submission beneath the griffin's assault. An Aramaic inscription naming Ariarathes appears below the central device in the exergual area. The engraving style is consistent with late Achaemenid provincial satrapal coinage of Cappadocia and reflects the artistic conventions of the Persian imperial sphere.
