| Obverse description | Bearded effigy of Ardashir III facing right, depicted in high-relief bust with characteristic Sasanian royal regalia. The king wears an elaborate mural crown surmounted by a frontal crescent, two wings, and a korymbos (hair bundle) set upon a crescent, with a ribbon falling over the left shoulder and a crescent-and-ribbon motif on the right. Stars flank the crown in the field, while a border of star-in-crescent devices frames the design in the outer margin. The portrait reflects the refined die-cutting tradition of late Sasanian royal coinage, rendered in Inscriptional Pahlavi script. |
