| 表面の説明 | Draped bust of Ardashir III facing right, wearing an elaborate mural crown surmounted by a frontal crescent, two outspread wings, and a korymbos set upon a crescent; a ribbon falls over the left shoulder while a crescent and ribbon adorn the right. Stars flank the crown on either side, and star-in-crescent devices are distributed within the outer margin. The portrait is executed in the refined linear style characteristic of late Sasanian royal coinage, with the regalia emphasising divine and royal authority through its composite symbolism. |

Ardashir III came to the Sasanian throne as a child of seven following the murder of his father Kavad II, who had himself reigned for only a matter of months in 628. The boy-king survived barely eighteen months before being strangled on the orders of the general Shahrbaraz, who seized the throne in 630. His coinage is accordingly scarce, produced within a dynasty in freefall — the decade between 628 and 632 saw no fewer than eight rulers claim the Sasanian crown.
