| Obverse description | Bust of Ardashir I facing right, depicted with an elaborate, heavily curled beard and hair arranged in multiple layered locks falling to the shoulder. The king wears a distinctive mural crown surmounted by a large globular korymbos (hair bundle) enclosed in a diadem. The effigy is rendered in bold high relief, characteristic of early Sasanian die-cutting. The bust is surrounded by a circular beaded border, with the Middle Persian (Pahlavi) royal legend distributed around the periphery of the field. |
