Obverse description Draped bust of Ardashir I facing right, wearing the distinctive Sasanian korymbos headdress — a large, orb-shaped hair bundle enclosed within a diadem — surmounted by an elaborate crown with a ribbed crest and pendant ribbons visible behind. The king is depicted in heavily jewelled and beaded court dress with a prominent necklace. A circular Pahlavi legend in Middle Persian script surrounds the effigy within a beaded border, reading the royal titulature proclaiming Ardashir as Mazda-worshipper, lord, and King of Kings of Iran, whose origin is from the gods.
