Ardakhshir III ruled Persis as a vassal king under Parthian suzerainty, and the precise dating of his coinage remains contested — the 120–150 CE range reflects ongoing scholarly disagreement rather than firm archival evidence. Persis itself was unusual among Parthian client states in maintaining an unbroken native dynastic coinage stretching back to the Achaemenid period, a practice Parthia tolerated nowhere else at comparable scale.
The Alram and Sunrise references place this drachm within a recognized sequence, though die studies on the Persis series remain incomplete relative to the volume of known specimens.
