Obverse description Diademed head of King Archelaus facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with carefully detailed hair bound by a broad diadem; the portrait is naturalistic and of high artistic quality. The fillet border frames the design around the coin's periphery. The neck is bare, and the facial features display the idealized yet individualistic character typical of late Hellenistic royal portraiture.

Reverse description A Herculean club depicted vertically in the central field, a dynastic emblem of the Cappadocian royal house. The Greek royal legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΡΧΕΛΑΟΥ ΦΙΛΟΠΑΤΡΙΔΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΚΤΙΣΤΟΥ ('of King Archelaus, Philopatris, the Founder') surrounds the club. The date is indicated by the letters M and B (regnal year 42) placed in the left and right fields respectively.
