Stratonicea, the Carian city granted autonomy by Rome after centuries of loyalty stretching back to its voluntary alliance against Mithridates in 88 BC, issued civic coinage under local magistrates throughout the Antonine period. The magistrate name recorded here — Aristeas — appears in the RPC IV corpus as one of a small cluster of named officials on this type, making die-linked specimens useful for establishing the relative sequence of the city's Antonine issues.
