Salm b. Ziyad governed Khurasan for the Umayyads from 681 to 683, and his coins — already imitations of Sasanian prototypes — were themselves then copied by Nezak Hun authorities operating in the eastern margins of the collapsing Sasanian world. This layered mimicry reflects how thoroughly Sasanian monetary conventions dominated the region even decades after Yazdegerd III's death, with both Islamic governors and steppe polities alike borrowing the visual and metrical grammar of an empire that no longer existed.
