Ainetor served as magistrate at Rhodes during a period of acute geopolitical pressure — the island was navigating its precarious position between Rome and the Macedonian-Seleucid alliance that culminated in the Roman–Syrian War. Rhodian drachms of this period circulated widely across the eastern Mediterranean, where the city-state's commercial reach was arguably unmatched among Aegean powers. The plethora of SNG references catalogued against this type reflects just how systematically Rhodian small silver has been studied relative to other Hellenistic civic issues.
