| Obverse description | Facing head of Helios, the sun god and patron deity of Rhodes, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curling hair radiating outward in the manner of solar rays. The effigy is depicted full-face, with a serene idealized expression characteristic of Hellenistic die-cutting at its finest. Elongated flame-like or teardrop-shaped rays project symmetrically from the hair around the entire circumference of the head, evoking the radiate crown associated with the solar deity. The field is plain and unlettered, focusing all visual emphasis on the powerful central portrait. The style reflects the accomplished craftsmanship of the Rhodian mint during the late Hellenistic period. |
