Abd Allah b. Umayya served as governor of Kirman under the Umayyad administration during the transitional period when Arab-Sasanian coinage was being systematically replaced by fully epigraphic Islamic issues — the reform completed under Abd al-Malik around 696–698. Coins struck in his name retain the Sasanian fire-altar and attendants on the reverse, a visual holdover the Umayyads tolerated briefly before the reformed purely Arabic type made such imagery obsolete and, effectively, illegal for official coinage.
